How to find a ruined portal from a Minecraft seed
Where ruined portals generate
Overworld ruined portals generate in almost any biome, on land or underwater, on a scattered grid. They appear as partial obsidian frames with a chest and scattered gold or crying obsidian, and some are almost fully buried in the terrain.
Free obsidian and Nether gear
Each ruined portal comes with a chest that can hold flint and steel, fire charges, gold, and sometimes an enchanted golden apple or enchanted armour. The obsidian frame itself is enough to finish a working portal once you add the missing corners.
Repairing it to reach the Nether
Mine around the frame, replace the missing obsidian and light it with flint and steel. Ruined portals are the cheapest way into the Nether early on, before you have ten obsidian to spare, so scan for the nearest one first.
The scan runs in your browser on the same free engine as the main SeedFinder console: no download, no login, and it reads Bedrock and Java seeds. Prefer to script it? Use the same engine over the REST API. See the API documentation.
