How to find an ocean monument from a Minecraft seed

Where ocean monuments generate

Ocean monuments generate in deep ocean biomes on a large fixed grid, which makes them predictable and easy to locate from a seed. Each one is guarded by guardians and three elder guardians, so arrive prepared with water breathing and good armour.

What is inside a monument

The monument is built from prismarine and dark prismarine, lit by sea lanterns, with sponge rooms and a central chamber holding eight blocks of gold. Elder guardians drop wet sponges, and their Mining Fatigue debuff clears once you defeat them.

Guardian farm potential

Monuments are the standard site for a guardian farm, the best source of prismarine, prismarine shards and crystals, sea lanterns and fish in the game. Draining or sectioning a monument is a big project, so finding the closest one first saves an ocean crossing.
