How to find an ancient city from a Minecraft seed

Where ancient cities generate

Ancient cities generate in the deep dark biome, far underground and usually below the surface. Structure placement is tied to that biome, so the scan reports the horizontal X/Z where the deep dark and the city meet - a point you can tunnel straight down to instead of exploring caves for hours.

Which Y level to dig to

Ancient cities sit around Y -51. The scan gives you the horizontal coordinates only, so once you reach them dig straight down and stop when you hit sculk. Bring night vision, plenty of blocks to bridge, and a way back up.

Sculk, shriekers and the Warden

Cities are built from sculk and dotted with sculk shriekers; triggering too many summons the Warden, a blind mob that hunts by sound. Move slowly, place wool to muffle noise and avoid the shriekers. The central portal frame area holds the best loot, including the Swift Sneak enchantment found nowhere else.

The scan runs in your browser on the same free engine as the main SeedFinder console: no download, no login, and it reads Bedrock and Java seeds. Prefer to script it? Use the same engine over the REST API. See the API documentation.
